Boudu Saved From Drowning

A great Sunday late-afternoon film at the British Film Institute. Directed by Jean Renoir from a play by Rene Fauchois, Boudu Sauve Des Eaux is a 1932 black and white film (a restored version) that not only has moral questioning and almost-farce, but is also a visual feast of cinematography. Michel Simon, playing the saved ‘tramp’ Boudu, is a mesmerising joy to behold as he apparently becomes part of the bourgeois household. Funny, shocking, and wonderful.
